About the Bar

The Alexandria Bar Association has been serving the community for over 75 years, established in 1928. Several members of the law community of Alexandria realized there was a need for more involvement in this community. They also understood they need to unite the law community in order to accomplish this, hence, The Alexandria Bar Association was created.

The membership of the Bar is comprised mainly of small firms and solo practitioners. Although the majority of the members are located in Alexandria, we do have members through-out the greater Washington, DC Metropolitan area. To learn more about our membership and benefits offered to Alexandria Bar members, click here, Membership and Benefits Information.

We have seventeen active committees within the Bar. Many of the committees are community oriented and some are socially oriented. Each committee has a chair, a co-chair with 10 to 45 members. They meet at various times, some weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, bi-annually and annually. It is not mandatory that members join a committee.

The Foundation of the Alexandria Bar Association is an intricate part of the Bars structure. The foundation works with local organizations to provide scholarships to high school seniors and provides grants to local organizations to help them serve the community more effectively.
